Topic: "The Evolving CIO Driving Execution and Influence"

Recent surveys indicate that 62% of CIOs are members of their organization’s executive committee compared to 38 percent in 2005. The likelihood that CIOs are reporting to the CEO, rather than to the CFO or someone else, is rising by about 10 percent a year. And, the role of CIO is sometimes seen to be a rotation position for high-performing individuals being groomed for top spots including CEO/COO.

These trends indicate career progression opportunity and competition for CIO’s with traditional technical path backgrounds. Now, technologists have more choice and can pursue executive leadership to impact business direction or continue to pursue senior-most technical roles to influence detailed technical directions and execution of IT strategy. The rise of Chief Technology Officers (CTO), Chief Digital Officers (CDO), and others reflect the required ranges of business acumen and technical depth to carry out the mission of business technology, which is no longer simply collected in a single role of “CIO”.

The evening’s presentation will frame the dinner-discussion among peer CIO’s, how they view trends and variations in their increasingly strategic roles as CIO, and how that can vary by industry type, corporate history, and the prevailing business strategy. These factors influence career path planning for themselves and their successors as tech leaders.”

Our speaker is Tom Oser, a hands-on executive leader for business transformation in post-merger integrations, turn-arounds, and digital transformations. Tom serves clients from strategic planning through execution. Tom “Advances the Discussion” for others at the confluence of "Technology, Innovation and Business Strategy" for executives and high-performers who need to bridge the gaps how business and technology intertwine in their businesses. He teaches internationally to both MBA classes in top business schools, and to corporate executive programs on topics including : “Management of Technology & Innovation”, "Strategic Planning"; “Sales: Operations & Management”, “Negotiations”, and “Executive Communications and Presentations:" at local and international venues for: UCLA Anderson School of Management; The Wharton School/PENN; Verizon; AT&T Microsoft China.
